ABOUT US

Hudson Soft is a leading developer of game and entertainment software. The company has been a pioneer for almost thirty years, creating numerous firsts in the game industry and satisfying game players with unique and deep content. Hudson Soft is a major publisher in the Japanese software market, supporting all home consoles. The company is also a force in the mobile media arena, having solid success with cellular phone internet gaming.

Hudson was created in 1973 by Yuji and Hiroshi Kudo. Their good fortune brought them upon the personal computer revolution in Japan. The brothers quickly saw the potential of this new technology and began writing and selling software for the Altair computer. By 1978, Hudson became the first company to sell and market game software in Japan.

In the early eighties, a company called Nintendo released a new concept in game machines, the Famicom. Although derided by critics, the Kudos invested in development and then became the first third-party developers for the system. Success was quickly rewarded as their first game "Lode Runner" sold 1.2million units. Other hits soon followed and Hudson became one of the top game publishers in Japan.

But the company has always been more than just a software developer, exemplified in their established hardware and tools division. In the mid-eighties, Hudson developed what they considered to be a superior LSI game chip system, named the C62. In 1987, this chip was licensed to electronics giant NEC, which used the chip to power their successful PC Engine game system. Hudson was the designing force behind this console and also its unique "HuCard", a memory-card software media. Hudson later developed the first CD-ROM hardware for game software, used in conjunction with their LSI.

On the software side, Hudson has had a venerable stable of game hits throughout the cycles of console wars. Both company flagship series, Bomberman and Momotaro, have sold over 10million units in their careers, while favorites such as Bonk's Adventure, Bloody Roar, Adventure Island, Tengai Makyo and Ys have made history with game lovers worldwide.

As console game development continues, the portable gaming revolution in Japan has flamed a new industry of mobile internet gaming. Since 2000, Hudson has been at the front line, developing game content for cellular phone leader NTT DoCoMo's i-mode platform. The company is the number one game content provider for i-mode. Hudson is helping define this maturing industry with the best entertainment experience on the go.

Hudson continues to push the gaming envelope with new releases and continued development of proprietary tools and hardware. Our world-class research facility provides our designers with the most advanced algorithms and middleware technology. Hudson is one of the leading designers for Nintendo's Game Cube development system. Having such an unparalleled lab gives our programmers unique access to the latest techniques and technology, allowing Hudson games to be the best in the industry.
